Non è davvero la costanza a mancare al nostro Dannie Damien, polistrumentista italiano divenuto una figura quasi emblematica di quanto sia difficoltoso farsi strada in un universo complicato e ricco di ostacoli come quello della musica rock. Armato come sempre solo della propria passione, pochissimi mezzi ed un bel pacco di idee, Dannie giunge con “Solitary Souls Pub” al quarto passaggio sulla lunga distanza, dopo aver realizzato - nell’arco di cinque anni - un trio di autoproduzioni costantemente impregnate da un alone di romantico, quasi fanciullesco, innamoramento per sonorità iper-melodiche di chiara derivazione americana.Un discorso analogo potrebbe valere anche per molti altri dei brani ascoltati in questo e nei precedenti dischi realizzati sin qui dal valoroso musicista italiano, di nuovo alle prese con un prodotto che suscita il classico ed inevitabile ritornello: “c’è moltissimo potenziale, ancora in buona parte da esprimere appieno”.Una frase di commiato che si è soliti utilizzare nel discorrere di release a carico di band alle primissime uscite che, sinceramente, ci duole parecchio dover riferire ancora trattando di Dannie Damien.Soprattutto quando, gran parte dei limiti proposti, non sono dovuti ad una reale mancanza d’abilità, quanto alla pura e semplice contingenza.Insomma, Dannie Damien, appassionato ed inossidabile cantastorie AOR nostrano al quale non possiamo che augurare ogni bene, anche questa volta dimostra, pur non essendo granché nelle vesti di singer, d’essere un valido songwriter ed ancora più, un ottimo e preparato musicista.Chissà se qualcuno se ne accorgerà mai... Dannie interpreta de magistral manera la guitarra, a la cual le imprime melodías bastante interesantes. Sin embargo eso no indica que este "Solitary Souls Pub" no sea un disco disfrutable. Todo lo contrario. El repertorio es bastante entretenido, con un sonido muy en la línea de bandas como Work Of Art o Xorigin.En conclusión, un disco bastante entretenido y de un espectro amplio para diverso público. Talk about clever titles, well “Cowgirls from the Moon” has got some major guitars that are a little bit country and little bit rock and roll. “Damned Bells Dancer” is one of the best songs on the album. Everything is perfect and has a memorable chorus. “Rock ‘N’ Roll Nights” is a AOR classic in the making. This is another kickass song that oozes 80’s. Now for the best song on “Solitary Souls Pub”. “The Backslide” has me convinced now. You can hear the passion and conviction in DANNIE DAMIEN’s music and vocals. The piano is compelling and exceptional and amazing guitar solo as well. Easily the best song on the album.
“Solitary Souls Pub” is not perfect by any means. However, it is perfect to jam out to while having a cocktail or two. DANNIE DAMIEN and his music on “Solitary Souls Pub” invoke feelings of a somber state. However, this gloomy and pensive mood gets lifted as the album plays on, taking away any negative connotations. This album is for fans of Styx, Toto, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, AOR, and 80’s rock (METAL TEMPLE)
Wie bereits bei The Boxer And The Boozer und A Cowboy No One Gets gibt es 80er Underground AOR/Classic Rock im typischen Dannie Damien Sound, mit einmal mehr großartiger Gitarrenarbeit.
Solitary Souls Pub enthält insgesamt 16 Tracks, davon 2 Bonustracks. Das Album ist limitiert auf 300 Stück und durchnummeriert. VÖ: Sommer 2018
